Important information on Ebola infection
Dear Students! For epidemiological reasons and for your own health, the management of the university advise students not to travel to countries involved in the current Ebola outbreak (Guinea, Democratic Republic of Congo, Liberia, Sierra Leone) in the near future or during winter break period.
You have probably heard about the Ebola outbreak going on in Africa. We are expecting students of the University to return to Szeged for the beginning of the semester from the areas affected, however, no individuals infected with the virus have been verified in Europe so far. The probability of the introduction of the disease to Hungary is very low; moreover, the general hygienic conditions, a more sophisticated healthcare system, and the general preparedness would prevent the spread of the virus. Passengers are screened and quarantined at the airports if they exhibit signs of the disease.
The Ebola virus — much like the Hepatitis B virus — can spread through only blood and other bodily fluids (saliva, sperm etc). Its incubation period ranges from 2 to 21 days. According to current data, the virus does not spread though the air, mosquitoes do not spread the virus; establishing everyday contact with infected individuals does not lead to infection.
However, due to safety concerns, you are asked to contact a doctor without delay, should you experience the following symptoms, and have been to a virus-affected area within 21 days of the onset of the symptoms, or have been in contact with infected blood or other bodily fluids, or have had sexual contact with individuals having been to the areas affected.
Symptoms:
- a sudden onset of fever
- aching muscles or joints, weakness/lethargy
- headache, sore throat
- gum bleeding, other kinds of bleeding
The Albert Szent-Györgyi Health Center and the Faculty of Medicine have devised a detailed plan of action as per the recommendation of Dr. Judit Paller national chief medical officer in case of an infection.

Tavasszal is meghirdette az SZTE NKI Kulturális Irodája a Hallgatói Művészeti Versenyét, amelyre több kategóriában jelentkezhettek a tehetséges hallgatók: az eredményhirdetésen kiderült, a meghirdetettek közül majdnem minden kategóriában értek el helyezést BTK-s hallgatók is, nem egy esetben első helyen végeztek.
Néhány nappal később az ugyancsak az SZTE NKI által szervezett „A Szegedi Tudományegyetem és a Nobel-díj” alkotói pályázat díjkiosztójára is sor került, ahol az egyik első díjat szintén egy BTK-s hallgató kapta meg, személyesen Karikó Katalintól.
